Privacy policy

This covers the voxbound.app website, the Voxbound desktop app, and the purchase process on Gumroad. It's shorter than most, because Voxbound is built to see as little of your data as possible.

Who we are

Voxbound is provided by A Ford, trading as Voxbound, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. For the website and the app, we're the data controller. For the purchase itself, Gumroad is the party that holds your payment details — see payment data. Contact us at support@voxbound.app.

The website

voxbound.app sets no tracking cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Fonts are served from our own domain, not a third party's, so visiting the site doesn't send your address to a font provider.

The site shows an approximate price in your local currency using your country, which Cloudflare (our hosting provider) already knows from the request it's already handling — this isn't looked up separately or stored against you. To do this, our server fetches one shared exchange rate periodically from a currency-rates API; that request doesn't include any information about you or your visit.

Cloudflare, as our host, processes standard connection and server logs (such as IP address and request details) for security and reliability, the way any web host does. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for how they handle that.

The app

The Voxbound app doesn't collect usage analytics and doesn't send us information about the audio files you process. A few features do talk to the network:

• Licence activation. Your licence key, and a label identifying the device (such as its name), are sent to Gumroad's licensing service to activate your copy and to recheck it roughly every seven days. This is between the app and Gumroad; we don't see it.
• Book metadata lookup. When you use "Look up" to fill in a book's details, your search terms (title and author) are sent to our own server at voxbound.app, which queries Google Books and, if needed, Open Library on your behalf — this is so Google and Open Library see our server's address, not yours. If you choose to search Apple Books specifically, that search goes directly from your own device to Apple, so Apple receives your search terms and your IP address for that one lookup.
• Update checks. Once per launch, an activated copy asks voxbound.app for the latest available version number. Downloading an update also confirms your licence with us first, so the download can be limited to people who've paid for it.
• Everything else stays local. Your settings, project files, queue, presets and the application log (voxbound.log) are stored only on your own PC, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Voxbound. We only see the log file if you choose to send it to us for support.

Payment data

Your purchase is handled entirely by Gumroad, which is the merchant of record for the sale. We never receive or store your card number or other payment details — we only see that a valid licence exists and, if you agree to it being visible, the buyer name and email tied to it, for support purposes. Gumroad's own privacy policy covers what it collects and how during checkout.

Who we share data with

Beyond what's described above — Gumroad (payment and licensing), Cloudflare (hosting), Google Books and Open Library (book lookups you trigger) — we don't sell or share your data with anyone else, and we don't use it for advertising.

How long we keep data

We don't hold personal data from your website visit, since we don't set tracking cookies or run analytics. Data the app stores locally on your PC stays there until you delete it or uninstall Voxbound. Gumroad and Cloudflare each retain data according to their own policies. If you email us for support, we keep that correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to resolve it and to meet any legal or accounting obligation.

International transfers

Book-metadata lookups may send your search terms (and, for a direct Apple Books search, your IP address) to servers outside the UK and EU, including in the United States. These are short, user-initiated searches for a book's title and author — not identifying information about you beyond what's needed to find the book.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, or to receive a copy of it in a portable format. Email support@voxbound.app to ask. If you're in the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office; if you're in the EU, to your own country's data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the current version is always at this page, dated above.
